Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Adapter, Distilling/Splitting, 45/50, 0-12mm Valve, 3/4" Compression Fitting, Process Reactor. Compact and simple distilling/splitter adapter for use with Chemglass process reactors. Vapor flows upward freely through the large vapors holes to the condenser. Distillate flow is directed using the valve to either the receiving flask or back to the reactor. Control valve is either a 0-4mm or a 0-12mm PTFE with a 1/2¿ or 3/4¿ OD distillate takeoff for use with CG-1975 compression fittings and TFE tubing. Plugs are supplied complete with CG-309 Perfluoro o-rings.

Trap to fit AF-0350-01 90L/min Pump, Airfree, Schlenk. Designed to fit between the vacuum pump and the upper cart shelf on the AF-0300-01 cart to prevent oil from being drawn into the vacuum line. Offset inlet and outlet permits installation as illustrated. All sizes of the trap are fitted with a 4mm Airfree valve to allow the equalization of pressure when the pump is shut down while still having the line portion remain evacuated. Arms on all sizes have 1" OD glass tubing. Requires two AF-0300-11 hose clamps for installation.

Borosilicate glass drip tube with 7 mm outside diameter, 45° bevel tip. Body is 17 mm outside diameter and 145 mm in length with a 20 to 400 screw-thread finish. Use on Hach Distillation Apparatus.

Distilling Head, Short Path, Jacketed, 14/20 Thermometer Joint, 24/40 Lower Inner Joint, Approx. 200mm Width x 150mm Height. Similar to CG-1239 but vacuum jacketed to improve efficiency. Available with Vigreux indentations in uptake tube to further increase the performance of the head. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accept a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.
