Epidemiological evidence from outbreaks of listeriosis indicated the principle route of transmission is via the consumption of foodstuffs contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is used for the selective isolation of Vibrio cholerae and other enteropathogenic vibrios according to ISO 21872-1:2017 and ISO 21872-2:2007. Thiosulfate Citrate Bile Salts Sucrose (TCBS) Agar is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. TCBS Agar is also called Vibrio Selective Agar, and prepared according to the formula of Kobayashi et al. This formula is a modification of the selective medium from Nakanishi. All pathogenic Vibrio spp., except Vibrio hollisae, will grow on TCBS Agar. NEOGEN Eosin Methylene Blue (EMB) Agar Levine, 10 kg
Eosin Methylene Blue Agar Levine is used for the isolation and differentiation of Gram-negative enteric bacilli and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.This medium was introduced in 1916 by Holt-Harris and Teague to differentiate Escherichia spp. and Aerobacter spp. It was modified by Levine in 1918 who removed sucrose from the formula and increased the lactose content. The distinctive metallic sheen produced by E. coli on this medium is due to acid production resulting in an amide bonding between the eosin and methylene blue, other coliforms do not produce enough acid to cause this reaction. Meyer and Schonfeld added bile to the esculin medium and demonstrated 61 of 62 enterococci strains were able to grow and hydrolyze esculin, while other streptococci could not.Molecular taxonomic studies of the genus Streptococcus have placed enterococci, previously described as group D streptococci, in the genus Enterococcus. NEOGEN Orange Serum Agar, 500 g
Orange Serum Agar is used for the cultivation of aciduric microorganisms associated with spoilage of products and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans.The low pH of fruit juices makes citrus fruit products susceptible to spoilage by yeasts, molds, and the bacteria Lactobacillus and Leuconostoc. In the 1950’s, Hays investigated spoilage in frozen concentrated orange juice. He found that an agar medium containing orange serum (juice) was superior to Lindegren Agar in isolating the microorganisms responsible for spoilage causing a buttermilk off-odor. Murdock, Folinazzo, and Troy found Orange Serum Agar, pH 5.4 to be a suitable medium for growing Leuconostoc, Lactobacillus, and yeasts.
