NEOGEN Lactose Broth, 5 kg
Lactose Broth is used for the cultivation of Salmonella and coliform bacteria from food, dairy, and water products in a laboratory setting. Lactose Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Lactose Broth is frequently used as a pre-enrichment medium when testing foods and dairy products for Salmonella spp. In dried or processed foods, Salmonella species may be sub-lethally injured and in low numbers. The presence of other bacteria as well as components of the food sample may hinder growth and recovery of Salmonella. Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA) is a modification of Dextrose Agar described by Sabouraud. SDA is used for cultivating pathogenic and commensal fungi and yeasts. The addition of Lecithin and Tween to Sabouraud Dextrose Agar is used to neutralize antiseptics and disinfectants for environmental monitoring and other applications. Phenylethanol Agar inhibits swarming of Proteus spp., and can be used to selectively isolate anaerobic bacteria from specimens with mixed flora. XLT4 Agar is used with Tergitol 4 for the isolation of non-typhi Salmonella spp and is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. XLT4 Agar is a selective differential isolation medium for the specific detection of Salmonella spp. from environmental and food samples. Due to its highly selective nature, XLT4 Agar is particularly effective when used with samples where overgrowth of contaminating flora is expected, for example, fecally contaminated agricultural samples. Developed to perform as per Miller & Tate in 1990, this medium was found to improve the recovery of non-typhi Salmonella from chicken and farm environmental samples.
