NEOGEN Wilkins-Chalgren Broth, 500 g
Wilkins-Chalgren Broth is used for the cultivation of anaerobic microorganisms in a laboratory setting. Wilkins-Chalgren Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Wilkins-Chalgren Broth is derived from Wilkins-Chalgren Agar. Wilkins-Chalgren Broth provides good growth of anaerobes. This medium was selected because it does not require the addition of blood to support satisfactory growth of most anaerobes. Wilkins-Chalgren Broth is the same formula as Wilkins-Chalgren Agar with agar omitted. DescriptionRPMI 1640 Medium was developed at Roswell Park Memorial Institute in 1966 by Moore and his co-workers. A modification of McCoy's 5A Medium, it was formulated to support lymphoblastoid cells in suspension culture, but it has since been shown to support a wide variety of cells that are anchorage dependent. Originally intended to be used with a serum supplement, RPMI 1640 has been shown to support several cell lines in the absence of serum. Dulbecco's Modified Eagles Medium/Nutrient Mixture Ham's F-12 (DMEM/Ham's F-12) was created after extensive study of Harry Eagle's first reports. Since then, studies have been underway to determine the media requirements for individual cell types. The medium found to be most satisfactory for these studies was a 1:1 mixture of Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DMEM) and Ham's F-12 Nutrient Mixture. To help compensate for the buffering capacity lost with the removal of serum, HEPES has been added in some modifications at a final concentration of 15mM. DMEM/Ham's F-12 (1:1 Mixture, liquid), item #785068, contains L-glutamine, pyridoxine hydrochloride and 15mM HEPES buffer. Does not contain phenol red.
