(-)-p-Bromotetramisole oxalate is an alkaline phosphatase inhibitor. It is applicable to research related to erythroleukemia. In vitro, (-)-p-Bromotetramisole oxalate (0.3-0.4 mM; 5 days) potently inhibits terminal cell division-associated MEL DS-19 cell differentiation induced by 0.7% DMSO or 1.2 mM HMBA, reducing B+ cell levels. It also potently inhibits purified human liver, bone, spleen, and kidney alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes (10^-5-10^-4 mol/liter; under assay conditions at 30 °C) while minimally inhibiting purified human intestinal and placental alkaline phosphatase isoenzymes.
