Electron Microscopy Sciences Graphene Oxide Support film on Quantifoil R2/2, Cu 300 mesh
Graphene Oxide (GO) support film is a super thin (<1nm), naturally hydrophilic layer placed over the support film on grids. Pre-treatment of GO Support Films is unnecessary - by default, the hydrophilic surface spreads particles evenly across the grid. A hydrophobic surface can be achieved by heating in the air.
It works well with holey carbon, lacey carbon, and Quantifoil grid types, effectively spanning the gaps. It is less expensive than graphene to produce due to complexity of graphene manufacturing and has a better background contrast than graphene resulting in higher resolution. Nearly transparent in electron beam and barely visible under optical microscopes. Regular batch checking ensures correct coverage of monomers.
Note: plasma cleaning or glow discharge will damage the support film.

The glass discs are mounted in stainless steel slides with engraved serial numbers. Each slide is supplied in a polished wooden storage case. The simplicity of application and smooth, clean surfaces of PELCO Tabs™ Carbon Conductive Tabs are a significant improvement compared to many of the other common adhesives that have been used in SEM mounting. Both tab sides have a thick conductive adhesive (conductive inner tab is 35µm and the adhesive is 45µm on each side for a total thickness of 125µm [5 mils]) with a liner on both sides, a transparent liner and white liner respectively. They are ready for immediate use. The top protective liner does not have to be removed until the sample is ready to be mounted. This reduces possible contamination. Outgassing is negligible.

Ted Pella Inc Ultrathin Carbon Film on Lacey Carbon Support Film, 300 mesh, Gold, 25/pk
Pure carbon support films with no Formvar backing. This new product has an even thinner carbon film which is mounted on a Lacey carbon film. The carbon support layer lying over the holes is less than 3nm in thickness and is the thinnest support film available. It is particularly useful for high resolution microscopy of low contrast particles and is also ideal for use with the Energy Filtering TEM.

A formvar coated grid, stabilized with evaporated carbon film. This type of coating is excellent for specimen support, especially for ultra thin sections. Formvar is approximately 10 nm thick with 3 to 4 nm of carbon.
