Distillation Labware

Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

The Chemglass Airfree portable vacuum system has been designed to be a totally self-contained system for use in vacuum distillations, sample degassing, vapor pressure and other preparative work requiring vacuum to 1 micron. Please Note: System is supplied complete as shown with the exception of the Dewar flask, lab jack and port adapters; all of which are available as options.Complete system is shipped partially assembled with instructions in a wooden crate via common carrier, FOB Vineland, NJ. Vacuum Trap, Dual Chamber, Complete. Dual chamber vacuum trap affords increased condensing capacity in a much shorter length. The dry ice cold fingers have 55/50 inner joints that fit into the outer joints on the main trap body and have a capacity of approx. 300mL each. Lower stopcock is a PTFE 4mm ¿T¿-bore which permits draining condensate chambers one at a time. Serrated connections at the top of the condensate chambers have an O.D. of 10mm. Complete trap assembly is approx. 545mm in height x 220mm wide.

45/50 Adapter, Multiport, PTFE. 45/50 Glass filled PTFE adapter has center port 3/4” female NPT and six side ports 1/4” female NPT. Adapter permits addition of liquids, monitoring of gases, insertion of glass baffles, infrared probes etc. The complete adapter consists of a PTFE standard taper body, Nylon loosening nut, (6) 1/4” NPT PTFE plugs, and (1) 3/4” NPT PTFE plug. Loosening nut above the standard taper inner joint allows easy and quick removal. Supplied complete with a Perfluoro o-ring on the body.

Distilling Receiver, 20mL, Moisture Test, Barrett, 29/42 Joint Size, 2mm PTFE Stopcock, Approx. 325mm Height x 95mm Width. Barrett style distilling receiver used to determine the water content in petroleum or bituminous material. Receiver is made according to ASTM specifications, with the addition of the top outer standard taper joint and lower stopcock. The 2mL has sub-divisions of 0.02mL; the 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20mL; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1mL; the 20mL has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3mL and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.
