Distillation Labware

Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

100mL Reaction Vessel, Jacketed, 60mm Schott O-Ring Flange, GL-14 Inlet/Outlet, CG-911-A-10 Drain Valve. Similar to CG1924, but with our CG911A 0-14mm sidearm valve. All valves are designed to seal flush with the bottom of the flask avoiding the dead space normally associated with stopcock drains. This feature permits total mixing & draining of the contents of the reactor. The CG510 is recommended for solution based reactions while the CG911A and CG511 are recommended for reactions containing solids. Reaction vessel is constructed with a flange having a groove formed in the sealing surface of the flange. Flange is also ground to permit a greased seal with any lids CG1940 through CG1946. Supplied complete with two polypropylene hose connections and two screw caps (Polypropylene hose connections with a Viton rubber seal for working temperatures up to max +110°C.) Distilling Column, Water Jacketed, 14/20 Joint, 110mm. Jacketed distilling column has indentations on the inner tube to support packing material. The jacket allows the column to be used as a condenser. Column has a top outer and lower inner standard taper joint. Available in joint sizes other than those listed. All sizes have an I.D. of approximately 10mm.

The sidearm is sealed at a height for use with a 1” immersion thermometer. The 24/40 and 29/42 sizes are made to accept a 10/30, 3” immersion thermometer. The inner drip tip joint on the condenser and inner joint on the uptake tube are the same size.

Hickman Still Head, Minum-Ware. Unique design of the Hickman still makes it both the collection vessel and condenser for simple fractional distillations. The threaded side port permits easy removal of distillate via a syringe or Pasteur pipette. Side port has a 8-425 thread. Still has an upper threaded outer joint and lower inner joint, both 14/10. Supplied complete with open-top screw cap (MW-102-33) and Viton o-ring (MW-100-08) for 14/10 joint and PTFE faced septa (MW-104-01) and open-top screw cap (MW-102-11) for 8-425 sidearm.
