Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

100L Jacketed Reaction Vessel, Large Scale, 3" Beaded Pipe Drain Valve, 400mm Flange, Squatty. Jacketed large scale process reaction vessels. The 100L vessels have a 400mm ID flat ground flange. The inlet/outlet of the vessels are beaded pipe fittings for use with the CG-1964 and CG-1969-A beaded pipe adapters. Reactors have a 3 beaded pipe valve that is detachable. These flush bottom (zero dead space) valves are designed to prevent solids from collecting in the bottom of the vessel. The 100L vessels equipped with the detachable zero dead space valve have a lower silicone seal. Vessels are serial numbered and have a graduation scale on both sides showing approximate volume. PLEASE NOTE: BOTTOM DRAIN VALVE, BEADED PIPE COUPLINGS, AND ADAPTERS MUST BE PURCHASED SEPARATELY.
Chemglass Life Sciences Sublimation Apparatus, 50mL, Complete
Sublimation Apparatus, 50mL, Complete. Two-piece sublimer consisting of an upper water cooled condenser and lower flat bottom flask. Sublimate is collected on the inner wall of the condenser. The two components are assembled by a grease-free o-ring seal which permits the components to be gently separated for maximum product recovery. When condenser is inverted, the top vacuum connection serves as a funnel for convenient product removal. Complete apparatus consists of a condenser, flask, Viton o-ring and CG-150 Stainless Steel clamp.
