The protein interacts with proliferating cell nuclear antigen, aiding S phase DNA replication and repair. Cleavage by CASP3-like caspases activates CDK2 and may trigger apoptosis. Mice lacking this gene can regenerate damaged tissue. Multiple alternatively spliced variants of this gene exist.
