AdipoGen Stains-all
Chemical. CAS 7423-31-6. Formula C30H27BrN2S2. Molecular Weight 559.6. Stains-all is a carbocyanine dye, which stains anionic proteins, nucleic acids, anionic polysaccharides and other anionic molecules. Stains-all is metachromatic and changes its color dependent on its contact to other molecules. The detection limit for phosphoproteins is below 1ng after one hour of staining, for anionic polysaccharides between 10 and 500ng. Highly anionic proteins are stained blue, proteoglycans purple and anionic proteins pink. RNA is stained blueish-purple with a detection limit of 90ng and DNA is stained blue with a detection limit of 3ng. Stains-all is light sensitive, therefore the staining is performed in the absence of light and photographed immediately. Staining of proteins can be improved by a subsequent silver stain.
AdipoGen Sodium salicylate
Chemical. CAS 54-21-7. Formula C7H5O3 . Na. MW BD9837. Sodium salicylate is a metabolite of aspirin. It is a cell-permeable, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent NSAID that interferes with TNF-induced NF-kappaB activation by inhibiting phosphorylation and subsequent degradation of the IkappaB-alpha protein. It selectively inhibits TNF-induced activation of p42 ERK2 and p44 ERK1 MAP kinases and TNF-induced activation of JNK. It induces apoptosis via p38 kinase activation and inhibits COX-2 and inducible NOS iNOS transcription dependent on the experimental setup. It is commonly used for its antipyretic, anti-oxidant, neuroprotective, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer and analgesic properties.

Growing evidence has shown that aberrant expression of Isthmin-1 can also affect the biological behavior of cancer. The Ism1 gene is conserved in mice and humans. A recent study showed that Ism1 is an adipokine that induces glucose uptake in human and mouse adipocytes.

It has an excitation maximum at approximately 450 nm, and its emission is approximately 480 or 505 nm for low or high viscosity solvents, respectively. DCVJ has been used to study tubulin dynamics, it binds to tubulin and actin, and increases its fluorescence intensity drastically upon polymerization. DCVJ also binds to phospholipid bilayers, it integrates into the cell membrane and changes its quantum yield with the viscosity of the environment.

Induces mitochondrial-dependent apoptosis. Useful agent for immunometabolism research. Glucose entering the cell is metabolized by glycolysis to pyruvate. Most of the pyruvate in non-cancerous cells enters the mitochondria under aerobic conditions and a small fraction is metabolized to lactate. PDH in mitochondria converts pyruvate into acetyl-CoA, which enters the TCA cycle. In cancer cells, the oxidative mitochondrial pathway of glucose utilization is suppressed and most of the pyruvate is converted into lactate Warburg effect.
