Alkali Scientific Sabouraud Dextrose Agar w/Chloramphenicol 20mL Plate, 10/Pk
Sabouraud Dextrose Agar with Chloramphenicol is a selective fungal culture medium used for the isolation of yeasts and molds from samples that may contain large numbers of bacteria. While the acidic pH of standard Sabouraud agar already discourages many bacterial species, the addition of chloramphenicol provides an extra level of selectivity. This broad spectrum antibiotic inhibits most Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria, preventing them from overgrowing slower developing fungal colonies. The 20mL pre poured plate format offers a convenient ready to use solution that eliminates media preparation steps. It is widely used in clinical laboratories, environmental monitoring, and microbiological testing of contaminated specimens.

Gram Negative (GN) Broth is a selective enrichment medium designed for the recovery and cultivation of Gram negative enteric pathogens, particularly Salmonella and Shigella species. Each tube contains 10mL of broth prepared using Hajna’s modification, which enhances the growth of target organisms while suppressing competing bacteria. The medium achieves selectivity through inhibitory agents such as sodium citrate and sodium deoxycholate that reduce the growth of Gram positive organisms and many coliform bacteria. Mannitol serves as a preferred carbohydrate source that supports the rapid multiplication of Salmonella and Shigella during the enrichment phase. This short enrichment step increases pathogen numbers before plating onto selective agar media for isolation. GN Broth is widely used in clinical, food safety, and environmental microbiology laboratories.

Yeast Nitrogen Base (YNB) media have been prepared according the formulae of Wickerham (1943-51) and Burkholder (1943). YNB is a well defined composition of salts, vitamins, amino acids and a nitrogen source for a vigorous growth of Sacharomyces cerevisiae. Yeast Nitrogen Base without amino acids (YNB w/o AA), Y2025, is used for selecting yeasts based on amino acid and carbohydrate requirements. In Y2025, Ammonium Sulfate is included as a readily available nitrogen source for nitrogen assimilation. The medium includes all other vitamins, mineral salts and trace elements required for a vigorous growth of yeast cells. Compared to full YNB medium, Y2025 lacks Histidine, Methionine and Trypthophan. In combination with €œDrop Out € medium supplement mixtures, Y2025 provides an excellent medium to cultivate and select auxothophic strains of yeast that requires the addition of essential nutrients like amino acids and/or vitamins.
