(-)-Catechin gallate is a minor constituent found in green tea catechins. It functions by inhibiting the activity of COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes. Additionally, it directly interacts with DNA oligomers, inhibits gene expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 in macrophage-differentiated HL-60 myeloid leukemia cells, inhibits adipocyte uptake of glucose by GLUT4, and inhibits the activities of various proteasomes.
