Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

Distilling Receiver, 10mL, Moisture Test, Barrett, 14/20 Joint Size, 2mm PTFE Stopcock , Approx. 190mm Height x 75mm Width. Similar to CG-1261 but with the uptake tube vacuum jacketed to improve distillation performance. The jacket eliminates the possibility of condensation or recrystallization of distillate in the sidearm. The 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20ml; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1ml; the 20ml has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3ml and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Distilling Head, 500mL, Solvent, Modified, 24/40 Inner Joint On Take-Off. Designed to maintain distilled solvents in an inert atmosphere. Top of main vapor tube is open and an additional vapor tube has been added to decrease risk of pressure buildup. Upper sampling port has a 4mm PTFE stopcock with a 14/20 outer joint for use with CG-3022 septa. Lower drain is centered to allow total drainage of storage head. Double oblique 2mm bore PTFE stopcock on the 250 through 1000mL sizes allows for removal of distilled solvent or return to flask. The 250mL size has a 4mm double oblique stopcock. Both the uptake tube and top outer joints are 24/40, while the take-off tube is supplied with a 24/40 inner joint.**Design suggested by Dr. A.K. 500mL Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk. Apparatus for use in distillation of materials like THF or ether. Storage reservoir has a capacity of 500mL. The cold finger coil condenser has a section that's immersed into the distillate. The 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valves provide for grease-free, leakproof seals. Side vapor tube is fitted w/a 14/20 standard taper outer joint, to be used w/a CG104214 thermometer adapter which fits a plain stem thermometer. A short (50mm) vigreux section is provided to enhance separation. Syringe access port incorporates a 4mm PTFE stopcock w/a 14/20 outer joint for use w/CG-3022 septum stopper. Lower 3way valve allows for solvent return to flask, takeoff or storage in graduated reservoir. Delivery adapter is fitted w/a 12/5 spherical joint for flexibility & a 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve for purging of the receiving vessel.

Trap to fit AF-0350-01 90L/min Pump, Airfree, Schlenk. Designed to fit between the vacuum pump and the upper cart shelf on the AF-0300-01 cart to prevent oil from being drawn into the vacuum line. Offset inlet and outlet permits installation as illustrated. All sizes of the trap are fitted with a 4mm Airfree valve to allow the equalization of pressure when the pump is shut down while still having the line portion remain evacuated. Arms on all sizes have 1" OD glass tubing. Requires two AF-0300-11 hose clamps for installation.
