Brucella Agar with Sheep Blood, Hemin, and Vitamin K is an enriched culture medium designed for the isolation and cultivation of fastidious anaerobic bacteria. Each sterile 100 × 15 mm plate contains 20 mL of Brucella agar base supplemented with 5% defibrinated sheep blood along with Hemin and Vitamin K1. These additives supply essential growth factors required by organisms such as Bacteroides, Prevotella, Fusobacterium, and Clostridium species. The medium supports recovery of anaerobic pathogens from clinical specimens including tissue, wound, and blood cultures. Sheep blood enables observation of hemolytic reactions that aid preliminary organism differentiation. This formulation provides a stable nutrient environment that promotes reliable growth and recovery of demanding anaerobic microorganisms in clinical microbiology laboratories.
