Ceftazidime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic used in research settings. It is effective against a broad spectrum of bacteria, including Gram-negative and some Gram-positive bacteria.
Ceftazidime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, ultimately leading to the death of susceptible bacteria. It may be utilized as a selective agent in microbiology and molecular biology experiments.
Incorporate ceftazidime into culture media to selectively promote the growth of bacterial strains that carry resistance genes against this antibiotic. This is often achieved by introducing a plasmid or vector containing a ceftazidime resistance gene into the bacteria of interest.
