α-Cyclodextrin (α-CD) is a soluble fiber derived from corn. It depletes sphingolipids and phospholipids from cell membranes, interacts with tubulin, and improves defenses against SARS-CoV-2 infection. It enhances the anticancer efficacy of Curcumin against breast, lung, and cervical cancer, and has beneficial effects on body weight and blood lipids.
- Exerts a protective effect against SARS-CoV-2 infection in Vero E6 cells
- Enhances the antitumor effect of Curcumin on MCF-7, A549, and HeLa cells
- Diets containing 1-20% α-Cyclodextrin did not produce signs of toxicity or adverse effects in rats (13 weeks)
- Diets containing 0-20% α-Cyclodextrin were well tolerated in Beagle dogs (13 weeks), although diarrhea occurred
