Research Products International Corp Malt Extract Broth, 500 Grams
Medium was recommended by Thom and Church for the cultivation of fungi. Its low acidity inhibits the growth of most bacteria. The high carbohydrate content enhances the rapid growth of fungi and yeasts.
Dissolve 15.0 g in 1 liter of distilled water. Sterilize by autoclaving for 15 minutes.

Also known as TSA or Trypticase Soy Agar, Tryptic Soy Agar is used for the isolation and cultivation of fastidious and nonfastidious microorganisms. This medium can be used for a wide variety of purposes including maintenance of stock cultures, plate counts and microorganism isolation of a range of specimens. It is also used for testing bacterial contaminants in cosmetics. The addition of blood can be used for the visualization of hemolytic reactions produced by various bacterial species. The addition of Tween 80 (Polysorbate 80) and/or Lecithin, is used for environmental monitoring as they inactivate disinfectant residue. Whether you need a general-purpose, nonselective media or you need added blood to facilitate a more fasitdious bacterial lawn for the detection of hemolytic reactions, we have several products to choose from. Yeast Nitrogen Base (YNB) media have been prepared according the formulae of Wickerham (1943-51) and Burkholder (1943). YNB is a well defined composition of salts, vitamins, amino acids and a nitrogen source for a vigorous growth of Sacharomyces cerevisiae. Y2030 has the same formulation as YNB without Amino Acids except that ammonium sulfate as a source of nitrogen has been omitted to test the ability of yeast cells to assimilate different nitrogen sources (i.e. Potassium Nitrate). Application: For carbon assimilation tests in the characterization and identification of yeasts. Note: The addition of a carbon source like glucose, galactose or raffinose is required.

MacConkey Broth is a selective and differential liquid medium intended for selection and isolation of enteric gram-negative bacilli, such as coliforms. The original formulation of MacConkey Broth, developed by MacConkey in 1900, contained 0.5% sodium taurocholate (inhibitor) and litmus (indicator). Several iterations were subsequently proposed and in 1905 litmus was replaced with neutral red. In 1953, Childs and Allen replaced neutral red with bromocresol purple after studies demonstrated it was less inhibitory.
