Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase is a crucial enzyme in the pentose phosphate pathway. It is responsible for the conversion of glucose-6-phosphate and NADP (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate) to 6-phosphogluconolactone and NADPH.
