Tanshinone IIA is a primary component found in the root of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge. It may suppress angiogenesis by targeting the protein kinase domains of VEGF/VEGFR2, and has anti-tumor effects including inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, disrupting the tumor cell cycle, promoting tumor cell apoptosis, and inhibiting tumor cell invasion and transfer.
- Has antiproliferative activity against various cell lines
- Protects rat myocardium-derived H9C2 cells against apoptosis
- Blocks the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway in gastric carcinoma AGS cells
