Gallic aldehyde (3,4,5-Trihydroxybenzaldehyde) is a phenolic aldehyde isolated from Geum japonicum. It inhibits the gelatinolytic activity and expression of MMP-9, as well as ERK1/2, p38, and JNK. This compound also possesses potent anti-HSV-1 and antioxidant activities, and exhibits antibacterial activity against Oenococcus oeni VF.
- Potent antiviral activity against HSV-1 with no cytotoxicity
- Antioxidant activity, scavenging DPPH free radicals
- Inhibits MMP-9 production and gelatinolytic activity in HASMC cultures
- Inhibits the growth of Oenococcus oeni VF
- Exhibits antiproliferative activity against various human cells
- No significant cytotoxicity in human aortic smooth muscle cells
- Inhibited MAPK phosphorylation and NF-κB/AP-1 nuclear translocation
