Distillation is a process used widely in the laboratory or in wider working environments for separating or purifying liquids or liquid mixtures based on the different boiling points of individual components.
Distillation Applications:
• Separation and purification of miscible liquid mixtures in organic chemistry
• Drying of solid residues and/or solvent removal
• Fractional distillation of liquids from polymers and petroleum products
• Removal of particulates or other solid contaminants
• As part of a water purification system for production of distilled water for laboratory use
• Specialist steam distillation-based applications such as Kjeldahl analysis of nitrogen and proteins in food, beverage, or environmental samples
What Types of Distillation Equipment Are Available?
Conventional distillation apparatus, typically comprising individual, jointed borosilicate glassware components assembled by the user (depending upon the application), using appropriate clamps, stands, and supports. Most conventional distillation assemblies combine a round-bottomed distilling flask to contain and heat the liquid(s) that require purification, fitted with a stoppered or jointed neck to which is attached a downward-sloping, inclined side-arm for connection to a condensing unit to cool the heated vapors back down to their liquid state. Heating mantles are the preferred heat source for improved temperature control. These conventional distillation units are also available supplied complete and ready-assembled for added convenience and ease of use.
Specialized automated distillation equipment, notably units designed for the determination of volatile acidity and alcoholic strength by volume in wines, musts, and alcoholic beverages, and units designed for Kjeldahl nitrogen or protein determinations.

0-8mm Chem-Vac Chem-Cap Valve. CHEM-VAC CHEM-CAP valve has a single sidearm sealed at a 90 angle to the barrel. This inexpensive configuration allows for the lower portion of the barrel to be sealed directly to the apparatus being constructed, making for more compact, stronger assemblies. 500mL Solvent Distillation Apparatus Complete, Airfree, Schlenk. Apparatus for use in distillation of materials like THF or ether. Storage reservoir has a capacity of 500mL. The cold finger coil condenser has a section that's immersed into the distillate. The 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valves provide for grease-free, leakproof seals. Side vapor tube is fitted w/a 14/20 standard taper outer joint, to be used w/a CG104214 thermometer adapter which fits a plain stem thermometer. A short (50mm) vigreux section is provided to enhance separation. Syringe access port incorporates a 4mm PTFE stopcock w/a 14/20 outer joint for use w/CG-3022 septum stopper. Lower 3way valve allows for solvent return to flask, takeoff or storage in graduated reservoir. Delivery adapter is fitted w/a 12/5 spherical joint for flexibility & a 0-4mm Chem-Vac™ Chem-Cap valve for purging of the receiving vessel.

Cajon adapters provide the flexibility of rubber tubing and are the ideal replacement for rubber, plastic, or glass tubing in critical vacuum applications. Connections compensate for misalignment, expansion and contraction; they are compressible by at least 20%, and they are extendable by 50% of its nominal listed length. Cajon adapters are supplied complete with two AF-0067 unions, two AF-0068 cuff adapters, and listed length of flexible tubing. NOTE: Since Flexible tubing will contract when evacuated, glass apparatus should NOT be firmly clamped in place until vacuum is established within the system.

Barrett style distilling receiver used to determine the water content in petroleum or bituminous material. Receiver is made according to ASTM specifications, with the addition of the top outer standard taper joint and lower stopcock. The 2mL has sub-divisions of 0.02mL; the 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20mL; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1mL; the 20mL has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3mL and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. The jacket eliminates the possibility of condensation or recrystallization of distillate in the sidearm. The 5ml has subdivisions of 0.20ml; 10ml has subdivisions of 0.1ml; the 20ml has subdivisions of 0.2 from 0 to 3ml and 0.5 from 3 to 20mL. Available with glass or PTFE stopcocks.

Upper hose connections are for cooling lines while the lower connection is for vacuum. Available with Vigreux indentations to improve efficiency. NOTE: The 14/20 size accepts a 1” immersion 7/12 or 10/18 thermometer, while the 24/40 and 29/42 sizes accepts a 2” immersion, 10/30 thermometer.
