Triacetin (Glyceryl triacetate) is a synthetic compound, a triester of glycerol and acetic acid, and is orally active. It increases acetate bioavailability in glioma cells, induces glioma cell growth arrest and apoptosis, and freely crosses the blood-brain barrier/plasma membrane.
